hey hey hey it's tuesday :)
today in class we started off by getting a new unit packet, a new calendar , and we turned in our cornell notes from 33.1. we got grade reports and we got back a flow map! then we did up page nine and ten in groups and when we were going over the answers Olivia had this bizarre question..I believe it went as follows (correct me if i'm wrong): "Mrs. Stein, scientifically, which is more likely to be real a werewolf or a vampire?" and mrs. stein gave a one word answer : Vampires. And I think I know why. Some people become so obssesed with them that they start drinking blood which turns their obssession into a mental illness, so they truely believe that they are vampires which I guess makes it more probable that they exist. I mean i guess it's what you define vampire as because some believe they never sleep and others say they sleep upside down. yay or nay?
Moving on, we watched a video as we walked in and at the end of class and both were on the circulatory system :)
i'm sorry that this was mostly about olivia's question but to be honest we didnt do a whole lot in class
homework:
up pages 11-17 read +annotate (underline and write in the margins)+ answer ?s on page 17
the next scribe is Olivia :)

Pictures! Pictures! Pictures!
hey hey hey!!
I found dome really cool pictures of plants at my house and one of them is actually a good example of phototropism! ( at first me and my sister thought that my cat broke it but then we were realized that the roots were still deep in the soil)
I can't name most of them except one of them is a jasmine also known as a raat ki rani which means queen of the night. it's called that because it blooms at night! it's most common name is in hindi because it's prominent is south asia and it's berries are poisonous!!!!

if you google it then you'll see that they've done it in other areas as well but I think that making it rain in the "empty quarter"

hey so it's thursday :)
Today was...ineteresting... first we finished the puberty myths and then we got on to the topic of douches and how they actually increase chances for infection...but then we got on the topic of why people call other d-bags( yeah that happened)..it was actually pretty funny... but if you didn't know what a douche is it is a squirt bottle or bag that women use to clean their vagina...Then after we talked about birth control and how pregnancy tests work and I'm going to attempt to summarize sort of how it works.. here it goes... So when you are preggo there is a special hormone that is present in you're urine and it only releases when the ovary is fertelized so the stick that ladies pee on is testing for the presence of that...i hope that's correct cross check with mrs.s if you want a more accurate answer and you're really curious...
In other news we had the reading check and we took some notes...and started annotating Lab 31.
The homework:
1)annotate lab 31 due at the end of class on friday but DO NOT slack off because we only get thirty minutes and you could be doing other productive things in those thirty minutes like studying for the bio final (smart idea since you can ask mrs.s questions)
2) watch online links on the menstural cycal (they're on moodle)
3)Review pages 992+993
4) test / quiz on wednesday
I don't think the notes are on moodle..and I left my notebook at school :/ so get them from a friend if you need to..sorry

look up in the air i'm everywhere :)
before I explain the title let's go over what happend in class...seems like a smart idea right?
in class we took some notes on genetics & multiple alleles!! yayayayayayayayayay!!! <--- my excited scream! I was gonna write out the notes but they're on this blog like two posts down check. it. out.
we also checked in some homework and if you finished 39-42 you got a stamp and if you finished pages 39-41 you got two stamps. you can still turn in 41-42 it's not late!!! (hint: if your having trouble see the notes!!)
pedigrees: squares= boy
circles= girl
Shaded= has the trait
*circle half shaded= carrier
* sex- linked problems
something cool: nasa is redefining life because they found an organism that has arsenic in place of phosphate meaning our notion that phosphate is needed to survive has discarded and this organism could potentially live in space. awesome right?
homework:1) up 43-46 - tomorrow
2) read 14.2- complete the materials and quiz on the online book - tomorrow
3) up47-52-wednesday
4) quiz thursday
now to explain this title soooooo it's a quote from my favorite rapper feroz (he's not mainstream... i hate mainstream music) he gives his music for free and it actually has meaning to it :) soooo check out his blog at hiimferoz.com (be careful because some of his songs have some bad words but not all!)

It's Thursday????
Hey hey hey it's Thursday :)
So today in class we talked a little more about mitosis and we learned this cool way of remembering all the phases ask about it in class if you missed it
Then we took a couple of notes on Prophase,Metaphase, Telophase and Anaphase
since I can't find them on moodle I'm putting the video that Mrs.S showed us:
http://http://highered.mcgraw-hill.com/sites/0072495855/student_view0/chapter2/animation__mitosis_and_cytokinesis.html
a couple questions that came up in class were:
Q:Are the proteing used in cells the same type of protiens that we eat?
A: Yes and No. The proteins we eat get broken down and are then used by the cells. Think of them as legos. You have a cool lego piece and the little blocks are the protiens used by cells
Q: Telophase in Animal cells vs. Plant cells (not really a question but you catch my drift)
A: In Animal cells they pinch apart and with Plant cells they form a Cell plate in between the two cells, it's baiscially an add-on to the cell wall.
In class we also did a Mitosis lab it started on page 44 in the unit packet and this first lab was baisically understanding mitosis. You can do this at home easily. This first lab was mainly to get us ready for the second one we will be doing tomorrow. It has to do with identifying the stages in Mitosis. The second lab we will be doing in class it starts on page 48 in the unit packet and goes to page 51.
Also, don't forget about your Cancer research paper! don't procrastinate about this! The 25th is a lot sooner than you think! Today we talked about citations within text and that is for example:
tra la la la la (someone's last name and a page number if it's a primary source).
the period always goes after the parentheses and other things that could go in the parentheses if the author is missing:
-A company say you got it from the American Cancer Society
-an abreiviated version of the title
Homework:
1. UP pages 44-51 due at the end of class tomorrow
2. Cancer paper due 10/25/10
in other news: Max turns 4 months today! woooohooo!! <3
and the scribe is.....Angela!!!!

In Class: We finished our Rip-O-Meter lab. Along with finishing the lab we completed pages 27-29 in the Unit Packet. Mrs. S will not be coollecting those pages but it is to your benefit that you complete them also the graph on page 28 can and should be a rough draft. What Mrs. S will be collecting is the lab write up the format and the rubric is on pages 31 and 32. THE WRTIE UP DUE DATE HAS CHANGED!!! it was previously due on 9/10 but it is now due on 9/8. We also recieved the pre-lab questions and the sixtypes of questions and answers that we turned in the day before be sure to pick those up from Mrs. Stein if you were absent or haven't done so already. If you didn't already start the microscope lab the last pages starting from 33 have to do with the microscope lab so make sure you take a look at them. THERE WILL BE A QUIZ ON THURSDAY!!! The information that will be on the quiz is located on page 1.
Homework: Unit Packet pages 33-37 due Thursday
