hey guys!
hello everyone. we started off our day with mrs. stein collecting our homework and giving us a stamp. After that we did our weird plant of the day. The weird plant of the day was THE MADAGASCAR PLANT!!!! this plant was pretty crazy. It looked like a palm tree except it was quite spikey. I should know this better than anyone because I decided to grasp the entire plant and it cut me in like 4 different places. Ok so after we checked out the plant we started a little lab. The lab was kind of virtual. We never actually did anything but we had the information we needed. Ok so the lab was to see how much water was lost if we put a plant in 3 different environments and seeing how much water came out of the plants in each of the environments. The 3 environments were bright light, wind, and mist. There was also a normal contol group. The act of water coming out of the plant is called transcription. and there was the least amount of transcription when the plant was in the moist environment and the most amount in the wind environment! Ok my children!

IT IS TOUGH TO BE JEWISH
hey guys! so today we got bear stamps for our homework last night. Sadly there was no video at the start of class so I can't talk about that. Well today we went over the possible genetic disorders from having to many or not enough chromosomes. We went over which chromosome pairs could have the disorder and that was 21, 13, and 18. If you have too many chromosomes on the 21st pair then the disorder is down syndrome. If you have too many on the 13th pair then the disease is Patau syndrome. If you have an extra chromosome on your 18th chromosome then you have Edwards syndrome. We then went over the sex chromosome disorders. The disorder for females is Turner syndrome. Turner syndrome gives females a webbed neck and poor breast development. They also are not as fertile and have a harder time getting pregnant. The disorder for males is called the klinefelter syndrome. This happens when a man has an extra X chromosome. They sometimes have high pitched voices and have some breast development and they don't grow very much facial hair. After that we talked about why certain ethnicities and religions have disorders that are common. The reason is that they are likely to get married to each other and then they make a child that has a bigger chance of getting that disorder. And us jews have it pretty rough. We have like 3 disorders that are common in our population.
Our homework tonight is UP 67-71 and there a quiz tomorow
WELL THATS ALL I GOT! I WOULD LIKE TO GIVE A SPECIAL THANKS TO MADISON!

Jacob is SO sorry
So today in class we got a stamp for the diffusion lab and went over it. We went over what Osmosis is. Osmosis is when the water in a cell moves from higher concentration to lower concentration out of the cell. Then we went on to our normal and plasmolyzed cells lab. In the lab we put 2 to 3 drops of regular water on an Elodea leaf and on a seperate slide we put 2 to 3 drops of salt water on the Elodea leaf. What happened to the salt water leaf was that the water in it diffused out of the cell to get to the lower concentration of water on the outside. When this happened the chloroplasts collapsed in on each other to form a big blob of them. The structure of the cell didn't chang because plants have a strong cell wall that nothing could change its shape. Look at page 211 in your biology book.
The homework is to finish the lab on UP pages 36-39
Also begin the pre-lab

Outdoor Walk
SUMMARY: Yesterday in class we reviewed what to do for the rip-o-meter lab write up. We talked about the format it is supposed to be in and what we should say in it. IF YOUR PRINTER ISNT WORKING JUST EMAIL IT TO MRS.STEIN!!!!!! We looked at our reading strategies on how to take cornell notes. After that we started talking about ecology (the study of how living things interact with each other). We talked about ecosystems and producers and consumers. Then we went outside and classified plants and some animals as producers and consumers. We were asked to estimate the number of grass, trees, and cattails. I took pictures of it but i don't know how to get it on the computer!
HOMEWORK: Read 3.1 and 3.2 and take cornell notes, finish 13-14, rip-o-meter lab write up due 9/8
