Ruby Tuesdays!!

Today was a pretty casuall day, nothing special. We showed Mrs. Stein UP 73-74 and 79 for one stamp on our stampsheet. Then we took notes on Genetic Engeneering Tools. With this we learned about all about the homework we did for today just in more detail. In summary we went over that genes are spliced, put into plasmids, bacteria reproduces and then all new bacteria has the gene we want. This bacteria is now cloned. Finally we watched a video called "Not So Perfect Match" ( http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/03/23/60minutes/main2600721.shtml )
which was about using gel electrophonesis to find DNA fingerprint matches using super technology. This was a very interesting movie with a very sad ending. This was it and overall it was a good tuesday.

That Totally Awsome Lab Experiment

Today in class: Mrs. Stein collect our Coloring Cells packets and she gave us stamps for the Diffusion Pre Lab and the 7.3 notes on Deffinision maps. During class time we Set up our Diffusion Labs located on Up34-35. We discussed this lab and finishednnot on cell functions with the Cell membrane and then continued our notes with what we read in 7.3. Diffusion, Osmosis, facilitated diffusion and active transport were all discussed and notes were taken down on these words. Then we answered questions on our lab experiment and the questions we didnt finish were for homework. Class time was used well!

7th period, 9/15

Class: Today, 9/15, we took notes in class at the beginning from Mrs. Stein about population growth curves and limiting factors. Then we ripped out Lab 58 (pg. 355-361) from our gray science books that we keep in our cubbies and returned the book to where we got them from. After that she gave us time to start UP 43-45 and answer any questions we had becuase today was the day before the quiz.

Notes: Population growth curves: A "S" curve is also called a logistic graph. We learned that limiting factors are anything that cause a population to decrease. A Density dependent limiting factor affects larger and more dense populations (exp. food availability, disease, competition, etc.). Density independent factors affect population regardless of density or size (exp. Fire, hurricane, extreme temperature, etc.).

3.Finish UP 43-45 (if not already done in class) both due tomorrow
4. Finish Blue worksheet and reading 5.1 and 5.2 (if not already done), due tomorrow
