today in class we started as usual. we walked inside and joked about the plant of the day and then got class started. We started class by going over the transpiration lab that was due today. Then Mrs. S went over any questions that anyone had on flowers from our text book reading that was also due today. After all of that we handed in the transpirstion lab and our flower diagram got a beautiful stamp on our stamp sheets=). When all of the mumble jumble stuff finished we broke up into our lab groups and completed the flower lab where we disected a flower! They are pretty cool! The flower lab can be found on UP pages 41-44, that is due TOMORROW in class. Good luck to everyone on the lab quiz tomorrow even though Mrs. S showed us the quiz it didn't help much;)

PARENT TEACHER CONFRENCES TONIGHT!!!!!!!!!

Today when we came into room 360 we turned in our guided reading notes of our choice from section 12.2! and we picked up some graded work from the front counter along with two pictures that would be used in our notes. Then Mrs S gave us each a new progress report!!!!!!!!!! After completing that portion of the class then we got asigned a brand new project for this unit!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!! this project is called the Tribune Articale and directions to complete it are on pg 3 of our new UP packet. (This project has to be all electronicaly done. NO GLUEING OR TAPPING ONTO THE PAGE!)

Just a side note if Mrs. S asks if you are excited about something say yes because Niel got candy when he did it.

After all of that we split up into groups of about 4 people and we wrote a paragraph with the words:

Phosphate group, double helix, structure, DNA, Nitrogen base, protein, code, and nucletide

after finishing our paragraphs and reading them to the class we toke some guided notes about the structure of DNA (View picture above)

And then after that long long hard day of learning in Bio room 360 we watched a movie about the structure of DNA voiced by no other then BILL NYE THE SCIENCE GUY!

TUESDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today in class we got our UP pgs. 6-9 stamped and we went over some of the

questions that we had to do for homework. We also picked up four new pictures up

front for notes that we toke later in class. Then we did "Star and a wish" and maddy

was the "Teacher" while Mrs. S finished checking in homework. We toke notes from

a power point about viruses (Lytic cycle and Lysogenic Cycle). When we finished

taking notes we watched 15 minutes of a video about viruses. It was very interesting!

The Homework for tonight is....

1. read section 20.2 in the text book and domkplete "In pictures and words" from our reading packet

2. Postcard (due: 11/8)

and THERE IS A QUIZ ON THURSDAY ON SECTIONS 35.1,

20.1, and 20.2!!!!!!!!!!

Issues in Ecology

SUMMARY: Today in class we started the class by turning in our rip-o-meter lab write ups, and we handed in our section 3.3 "picture this" guided notes. We got to new hand outs as well. We recieved one sheet that is for our new oil spill preject and we recieved a sheet to tape into our notes with 3 different pyrimids on it. In class we also went over the worksheet in our UP on page 19 that we started working on in class on Tuesday.

NOTES:

We toke some more notes from a power point that Mrs Stein had for us. these notes were about 3 different pyramids that have to deal with consumers and producers. (These are the notes that the pyramid hand out gets tapped to). The 3 pyramids were about 1. Energy 2. biomass 3. numbers.
The energy pyramid showed that each level in the pyramid the energy gets less and less by 10%. The biomass pyramid showed that the producers have the biggest catagory and the the catagories get less and less as you continue to go up. and the numer pyramid shows the relative number of individual organisms at each level of the pyramid.

NEW PROJECT:

Today we also talked about a project about the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. We picked partners for the project and we also decided in our partners what view point we wanted to take in the project whether it was an animal, tourist, or fisherman ect. Along with talking about the new project we also looked at page 21 in our UP and answered the first 2 questions.

HOMEWORK:

our homework is to read section 4.3 and complete the double-bubble reading strategy in our packet. DO NOT MAKE A VEN DIAGRAM! we also have to get 10 oil spill pictures for our new project by tuesday. and if you have not joined the blog yet you have to join by FRIDAY.
